Liberty calls Tudor a “woody bohemian” eau de parfum. At $330 for 100ml, the Liberty LBTY. Tudor Eau de Parfum costs as much as the big niche names. So I wanted to know if it earns that price.
I went through Liberty’s spec sheet and the 16 written buyer reviews on its site. I also read an editor’s take at Refinery29 and the fine print on returns.
That last part turned out to matter more than I expected. Here’s what I found.

What Tudor smells like (and the story behind it)
Tudor is part of LBTY., Liberty’s own fragrance line. Each scent in the line is built around a print from Liberty’s textile archive.
Tudor takes its cue from the Merchant print, which hangs as a huge tapestry inside the London flagship. Perfumer Pierre Negrin composed it. According to Glossy, every LBTY. scent comes from perfumers at the fragrance house dsm-firmenich.
Here’s the scent breakdown, straight from Liberty:
| Top notes | Juniper, ginger, nutmeg |
| Heart notes | Cypress, chamomile, cistus, myrtle |
| Base notes | Sandalwood, iris, amber |
| Liberty’s scent tags | Woody, fresh, warm, spicy, amber |
| Concentration | Eau de parfum |
| Perfumer | Pierre Negrin |
| Made in | France |
| Price | $330 for 100ml |

Negrin says the scent was inspired by Liberty’s building itself. He wanted “a woody floral scent,” so he put juniper and ginger on top. Cypress and myrtle add contrast, and it all settles into “a warm woody dry-down.”
That building has a great story of its own. Liberty’s Tudor-style store on Great Marlborough Street opened in the mid-1920s. It was built from the timbers of two Royal Navy ships, HMS Impregnable and HMS Hindustan.
The bottle carries the theme too. Its oversized cap is dressed in the archival Merchant print, so it looks like a piece of the store on your dresser.
What buyers are actually saying
Liberty’s site shows a 4.8 out of 5 average from 24 ratings. The same rating appears on both the 8ml and 100ml product pages, and some reviewers are clearly talking about the travel size.
I read the 16 written reviews shown on the page. Thirteen gave five stars and three gave four. Nobody went lower.
The praise
- Ginger and juniper up front: “I adore ginger in a fragrance and the note of juniper gives it a refreshing kick!” one five-star reviewer wrote.
- Warm underneath: The same reviewer said the sandalwood and iris give it “a cosy warmth.” Another loved its “smokiness and depth.”
- Unisex: Reviewers call it “totally unisex.” One said it “smells great on my man too.”
- Staying power: One reviewer said it “stays on all day.” Another called it “long lasting.”
- Day to night: One buyer found it “light enough to wear in the day and interesting enough to refresh for evening.”
The pros like it too. Refinery29 UK’s deputy beauty director, Jacqueline Kilikita, wrote that “Tudor is neither dark nor brooding.” She compared the juniper opening to “an icy gin and tonic” and found the scent “clean and soapy.”
The complaints and caveats
Complaints are thin, but they exist. One four-star reviewer docked a star purely over price, saying the full-size bottle was “out of my reach.”
Another buyer, now on a second bottle, called the scent “subtle.” That reviewer also wished Liberty made a matching body lotion to layer under it.
The bigger caveat is where the reviews come from. Ten of the 16 reviewers got Tudor in a Liberty advent calendar, a gift or beauty box, or as a sample.
That’s still honest feedback on the scent. It just means most reviewers didn’t pay $330 to try it.
Which size should you buy?
Liberty’s US site sells Tudor in three sizes. Two sampler sets include it too. Here’s what each option costs:
| Option | Price | What you get |
| Tudor 100ml | $330 | Full bottle, about $3.30 per ml |
| Tudor 50ml | $235 | Half size, $4.70 per ml |
| Tudor 8ml | $65 | Travel spray |
| Discovery Set (3 x 8ml) | $155 | Tudor, Wild Rosinda and Liberty Maze |
| Mini Fragrance Archive (6 x 1.5ml) | $60 | Six LBTY. minis including Tudor, plus a 15% off voucher |

The Tudor 100ml is the best value per ml by a wide margin. The 50ml saves you $95 up front, but each ml costs about 42% more.
Here’s why I’d still start small. Liberty won’t take back a fragrance once it has been opened, tested or used. If Tudor turns sour on your skin, that $330 bottle is yours to keep.
The Mini Fragrance Archive is the smart first step. For $60 you get a 1.5ml Tudor and five other LBTY. scents.
It also comes with a voucher for 15% off one 100ml or 50ml LBTY. bottle. On the 100ml, that’s $49.50 off. The voucher does expire, so check the date on it before you plan your full-size purchase.
One catch: US orders under $200 pay $20 for shipping. So the minis really cost $80 delivered.
Tudor vs. Byredo Gypsy Water
One five-star reviewer wrote that Tudor is “very close to” Byredo Gypsy Water “but is longer lasting.” It’s a fair matchup, because the two cost exactly the same.
| Liberty Tudor | Byredo Gypsy Water | |
| Price (50ml / 100ml) | $235 / $330 | $235 / $330 |
| Top notes | Juniper, ginger, nutmeg | Bergamot, juniper berries, lemon, pepper |
| Heart notes | Cypress, chamomile, cistus, myrtle | Incense, orris, pine needle |
| Base notes | Sandalwood, iris, amber | Amber, sandalwood, vanilla |
| How the brand tags it | Bohemian, ornamental, woody | Woody, genderless, medium intensity |
| Other sizes | 8ml travel spray ($65) | 250ml ($500) |
Both share juniper, iris (orris is the iris root), sandalwood and amber. Byredo even describes Gypsy Water with the same word Liberty uses for Tudor: “bohemian.”
The difference is in the details. Gypsy Water adds citrus, pepper, incense and pine. Tudor swaps those for ginger and nutmeg spice, plus a soft herbal heart of chamomile and myrtle.
Pick Gypsy Water if you want the more established name or a bigger 250ml bottle. Pick Tudor if you love ginger, or if that Liberty print cap makes you smile.
Returns, shipping and current deals
- Returns: Liberty offers free returns within 30 days of delivery. US returns go through the portal of its international partner, Global-e.
- The fragrance rule: Unsealed beauty items can’t be returned. That includes any fragrance that has been opened, tested or used, so keep it sealed until you’re sure.
- Shipping: US Express costs $20, or it’s free on orders over $200. Delivery takes 4 to 5 working days. Liberty says to allow 3 extra working days when delivery is free.
- Duties: Liberty says all duties, taxes and fees are included in your total at checkout. You won’t pay anything extra on delivery.
- First-order discount: Sign up for Liberty emails through the “Want 15% off?” pop-up to get 15% off your first online order. International shoppers qualify, but not if you’ve bought from Liberty’s website in the past two years.
- Sampler voucher: The $60 Mini Fragrance Archive includes a single-use code for 15% off one 100ml or 50ml LBTY. fragrance. The code has an expiry date printed on its slip. The offer runs while the sets last, and returning the minis voids the code.
- Stacking: Neither code can be combined with another promotion, so it’s one 15% discount per order.
FAQ
Is Liberty Tudor a unisex fragrance?
Liberty files it under women’s perfume, but buyers see it differently. Reviewers call it “totally unisex,” and one wrote that it “smells great on my man too.”
How long does Tudor last?
Liberty doesn’t publish a wear time. Several reviewers say it lasts, and one said it “stays on all day.” Another found it “subtle,” so expect results to vary from skin to skin.
Can I return Tudor if I don’t like it?
Only if it’s still sealed. Liberty won’t accept fragrances that have been opened, tested or used. That’s why sampling first makes so much sense.
Is there a Liberty discount code for Tudor?
There are two official ones. New customers get 15% off a first online order through Liberty’s email pop-up. The $60 Mini Fragrance Archive also includes a 15% off voucher for one 100ml or 50ml bottle. You can’t use both on the same order.
Does Tudor smell like Byredo Gypsy Water?
They share juniper, iris, sandalwood and amber, and one Liberty reviewer called them “very close.” Tudor adds ginger and nutmeg. Gypsy Water adds citrus, pepper and incense.
Should you buy Liberty Tudor?
Buy it if you love ginger, juniper and soft woods, and you want a unisex scent that works day or night. A 4.8-star average and a rave from a beauty editor are a good sign.
Hold off if you’ve never smelled it. At $330, with no returns once the bottle is opened, buying blind is a real gamble.
My advice is simple. Start with the $60 Mini Fragrance Archive and wear Tudor for a few days. If it wins you over, use the voucher on the full Tudor Eau de Parfum 100ml and save $49.50.
