resbyopia, also known as age-related near-sightedness, is one of the most common eye conditions in the world. For most people, it’s a natural, nearly-inevitable part of the aging process. It’s the main reason why many older individuals tend to own a pair of reading glasses (or a magnifying reader). The Tenpoint Yuvezzi offers a way to easily reverse that.
Recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, the eye drop is an effective treatment for presbyopia that attacks the problem from two fronts. It’s being touted as more effective than other similar solutions in the market, making it possible to reverse the age-related condition without the need for surgery.
The Tenpoint Yuvezzi is a new eyedrop for presbyopia care that vows to give people up to eight hours of sharp, close-up vision in a single application. According to the outfit, it takes effect within 30 minutes of using the eye drop, so you can use it in the morning and keep go about your day without near-sightedness getting in the way. They claim that the medication lets you read at least three more lines on the eye chart than you normally could even in low light, all without having any effects on your longer-distance vision.
While it’s not the first presbyopia eye drop in the market, it’s supposedly the first one to attack the problem on two fronts, all while lasting longer, since the current one in the market (Vuity) only lasts for a maximum of six hours. To achieve this, it uses two active ingredients. First is carbachol, which gets the pupils to constrict (as in, it makes them smaller) to sharpen near vision. Next is brimonidine tartrate that prevents the pupils from dilating (getting large) at any point during the drug’s active duration. Obviously, the carbachol is the main reason for improving your eyesight. However, the brimonidine tartrate is also helpful, since it helps extend the efficacy time while helping reduce eye redness, which is common when using carbachol.
The Tenpoint Yuvezzi’s eight-hour efficacy rate means most people will only need to use it once throughout the day. Sure, you’ll probably want another dose if you want to lose the near-sightedness at night, but if you’re home during those times, it’s probably best to just use your regular reading glasses. The outfit recommends using it once daily, by the way, which should be enough dose for most people’s needs, considering how long it can last.
Are there any side effects? According to Tenpoint Therapeutics, some patients in their studies have reported headaches, impaired vision, temporary eye pain, and irritation, although they were all mild and didn’t persist, eventually going away on their own at some point during the medicine’s efficacy period. They also found no treatment-related serious side effects after a one-year study, which definitely sounds very promising. It’s worth noting, by the way, that both ingredients have both been used for other eye conditions over the last 30 years, so there’s a lot of research out there for both, likely making this very safe.
No word on when the Tenpoint Yuvezzi will hit the market. Since it’s already passed FDA approval, it probably won’t take that long before doctors can prescribe it.
