What it’s made of
The shell is polyester oxford and nylon, paired with high-buoyancy foam panels placed to keep a dog’s head above water. Doglay describes the foam as the same material family used in human life vests.
The underbelly is breathable mesh, which drains water and lets air circulate instead of trapping moisture against the dog’s coat. Reflective stripes run along the sides for visibility in low light.
Sizing and fit
The jacket comes in five sizes, and chest girth is the measurement that actually matters, not weight alone. If your dog measures between two sizes, Doglay’s own sizing guidance recommends going up rather than down.
The rescue handle setup changes by size too. Smaller sizes get a single top handle, while the larger sizes add a second handle for better control when lifting a bigger dog out of the water.
What buyers are actually saying
The positives that show up repeatedly: an accurate fit when sized correctly, Velcro closures that hold securely during swimming, and panels thin enough that dogs don’t seem to fight wearing the vest.
The complaints are worth reading too. Some buyers say the Velcro on the underside feels rough and can rub or scratch a dog’s skin with extended wear. One reviewer reported the vest ripping after roughly two months of regular use, which is a real durability flag rather than a one-off fluke.

Measure chest girth before you order, size up if you’re between two, and keep an eye on the underside Velcro if your dog has sensitive skin.
