Ninety-eight dollars for a tank top. That was my first reaction to the Citizens of Humanity Isabel Rib Tank, and I suspect it’s yours too.

So I did the homework before judging it. I went through the brand’s spec sheet and its return policy. I compared size notes from several retailers. Then I read every verified buyer review I could actually get to.

Here’s the short version. The fabric and the fit get real praise. The sizing has one quirk you should know about before you order.

What the Isabel Rib Tank actually is

The Isabel is a close-fitting ribbed tank with a high neckline. Citizens of Humanity calls it a modern essential. It’s meant to be worn on its own or layered under structured pieces like blazers.

It comes in sizes XS through XL. The body length is 21 1/4 inches, so it sits around the top of high-rise jeans rather than hanging past the hips. It’s made in the USA with imported materials.

A little context on the label helps explain the price. Citizens of Humanity is a Los Angeles premium denim brand founded in 2003 by Jerome Dahan. It runs its own sewing and laundry facilities in Los Angeles and Turkey. Tops like this one are made to go with its jeans.

    The fabric

The blend is 49% Tencel Lyocell, 49% organic cotton, and 2% spandex.

That mix is the main reason this isn’t a pack-of-three basic. Lyocell is made from wood pulp and tends to feel smooth against the skin. The organic cotton keeps the classic ribbed tank feel. The small amount of spandex lets the rib stretch over your body and then recover its shape.

The brand describes the result as ultra-soft and supportive. As you’ll see below, buyers mostly agree.

    Price and colors

Most colors of the Isabel Rib Tank sell for $98 on the brand’s site. The two mineral-washed shades, Charcoal Mineral and Mineral Navy, cost $128.

The Isabel collection page listed 14 colors when I checked. They range from basics like White, Black and Navy to warmer shades like Mahogany, Cocoa and Pink Peppercorn.

One heads-up: availability moves fast. In late September 2026, the Dune shade pictured here and the White were both showing sold out on the brand’s own site. Check the color you want before you get attached to it.

    Care

The care instructions are simple. Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colors. Skip the bleach and tumble dry low.

    What buyers are actually saying

Let me be upfront about the sample size. The brand’s product pages don’t show customer reviews. Several big retailers also blocked me from reading theirs.

The verified reviews I could read came from Saint Bernard, a retailer that carries the Isabel. The tank holds a 4.7 out of 5 rating there across 7 reviews.

Seven reviews is not a huge pool. Still, the same few points came up again and again.

    What people love

    • It isn’t see-through. A buyer who owns it in both white and black said the white version isn’t sheer. Another said she could wear it on its own with confidence.
    • It hides bra straps. One reviewer said she can wear a regular bra underneath and the straps don’t show.
    • It feels substantial. A reviewer described it as a thick cotton tank with a sturdier fit. She said most cotton tanks feel like underwear, but this one doesn’t.
    • People come back for more. One verified buyer said she owns several and highly recommends them.

    The complaints

The only review below four stars was about sizing, not quality.

That buyer already owned the tank in black and in a sand color, both in a medium. The pink one she ordered in the same size fit much bigger. She had bought it as final sale, so she was stuck with it.

The other gripe is the price. Even the reviewer who called it the best tank ever admitted she wished it cost less.

Sizing: true to size or size down?

This is where the Isabel gets a little confusing.

Citizens of Humanity says the fit is true to size. Its model is 5’10” and wears a Small. Saint Bernard’s fit meter, which is based on its reviewers, also lands on true to size.

But Uniquities, another retailer that sells it, tells shoppers the style runs big. It recommends sizing down.

Add the review about the pink one running larger, and a pattern shows up. The fit may vary a little from color to color.

    Size chart

Here is the brand size chart as listed by Shopbop:

    SizeUS sizeBust
    XS032.5″
    S2/433.5″ to 34.5″
    M6/835.5″ to 36.5″
    L1037.5″ to 38.5″
    XL1239.5″ to 40.5″

For reference, Shopbop’s model wears an XS. She is 5’10.5″ with a 31-inch bust.

    How I’d choose a size

    • If you’re between sizes and like a snug, second-skin fit, go with the smaller one.
    • If you want room to layer, or you’re ordering a color you haven’t tried, stay with your usual size.
    • Keep the tags on until you’ve tried it. US exchanges for a new size are free (details below).

    Isabel vs. AGOLDE Poppy Tank

The closest alternative I found at the same price is the AGOLDE Poppy Tank. It’s another ribbed tank that shoppers often weigh against the Isabel.

At the same $98, the choice mostly comes down to the neckline.

The Isabel’s high neck covers more. According to its reviewers, it also keeps bra straps out of sight. The Poppy’s scoop neck shows more collarbone and has a softer, more casual look.

If you mainly want a tank to wear under blazers and jackets, I’d pick the Isabel. Its clean high neck is exactly what the brand designed it for. The Isabel also gives you far more colors to choose from.

    FAQ

Is the Isabel Rib Tank see-through?

Based on buyer reviews, no. A reviewer who owns the white version said it isn’t sheer. Another said it doesn’t look see-through or feel too clingy.

Can you wear a regular bra with it?

Yes, according to one verified buyer. She said the straps don’t show. The high neckline helps with that.

Does the Isabel Rib Tank run big?

The brand says it’s true to size. One retailer, Uniquities, suggests sizing down. One reviewer also found a pink one ran larger than her other colors. If you’re unsure, order your usual size and use the free US exchange if needed.

    How do I wash it?

Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colors. Don’t use bleach, and tumble dry on low.

    Where is it made?

It’s made in the USA with imported materials.

    Should you buy it?

If you want one tank that looks polished on its own, hides your bra straps and won’t go sheer, the Isabel earns its reputation. The buyers who own it clearly love it. Several own more than one.

    Buy it if you:

    • want a thicker rib that doesn’t feel like underwear
    • need a high-neck layer for blazers and jackets
    • like a close, fitted silhouette

    Skip it if you:

    • prefer a relaxed, loose tank
    • can’t justify $98 for a basic (a fair point, and even fans say so)
    • need a guaranteed fit in a color you’ve never tried

My advice is simple. Pick a color that’s in stock and stick with your usual size unless you love a tight fit. Keep the tags on until you’re sure. If it works for you, the Citizens of Humanity Isabel Rib Tank is the kind of basic you’ll reach for all week.
