Out of everything Lusso Tan sells, one product carries more reviews than almost anything else in the catalog: the Rapid Tan Mousse, at £24 with a 4.87 out of 5 rating across 403 reviews. I went through a large chunk of those reviews plus the full ingredient list to see if it earns that number.
What it’s made of
The active ingredient is dihydroxyacetone (DHA), the same tanning agent behind nearly every self-tanner on the market. What sets the formula apart is the supporting ingredient list: aloe vera leaf extract, vitamin E (tocopherol), vitamin A (retinyl palmitate) and glycerin.
It’s paraben and alcohol-free, fragrance-free, and marketed as safe for sensitive skin and pregnancy. That last point matters if you’ve reacted to scented tanners before. There’s no perfume masking the DHA smell here, just the ingredient itself.
Develop time and how to apply it
This is a rinse-off mousse, not an overnight tan. Lusso Tan’s own instructions put development at 1 hour for a light shade, 2 hours for medium, and 3-plus hours for the darkest result, then you rinse it off. That customizable window is the whole point of the “rapid” name: you control depth by controlling time, not by buying a different shade.
Buyers consistently recommend pairing it with the PH Balancing Primer first, since an unbalanced skin pH is one of the most common reasons self-tan goes patchy or fades unevenly.
What buyers are actually saying
The breakdown across 403 reviews is 90% five-star, 7% four-star, and the remaining 3% split between three-star and one-star. That’s a strong ratio at real volume, not just a handful of enthusiastic early reviews.
The recurring theme in the reviews I read is the smell, or lack of it. One buyer wrote that there’s “no smell of the tan,” and another praised the “beautiful rich colour” with no biscuit scent. A third called out how natural the finish looked, without the orange cast some rapid mousses leave behind.
Rapid Mousse vs the Tinted Mousse
Lusso Tan also sells a Tinted Self Tanning Mousse in Medium, Dark and Ultra-Dark shades that develops overnight rather than in a few hours. If you want to see your color guide as you apply and rinse same-day, the Rapid Mousse is the better fit. If you’d rather apply before bed and wake up tanned, the Tinted version is worth a look instead.
How it compares
Against Tan-Luxe’s drop and water formats, which run $53 to $66, the Rapid Tan Mousse is both cheaper and simpler to apply for anyone new to self-tanning.
