The SkyRover X1 is the drone that made me actually pay attention to this brand. At $499 (regularly $758), it packs a 1/1.32-inch sensor, 4K/60fps HDR video, 8K/48MP photos, 360-degree obstacle avoidance, and a 9.32-mile transmission range into a body that weighs under 249 grams. On paper, that reads like a DJI Mini 4 Pro spec sheet with a much smaller price tag. I went through the official specs plus independent field tests, including a wilderness comparison against the actual Mini 4 Pro, to see how much of that holds up in practice.
Camera and image quality
Reviewers who tested the X1 described the video feed as sharp with well-balanced exposure, and the gimbal’s ability to tilt up to 60 degrees opens up shooting angles a flat gimbal can’t manage. It also shoots RAW stills, which matters if you plan to edit photos afterward rather than post them straight off the drone.
SR-Log color profile in 10-bit HLG gives you real dynamic range to grade in post. Digital zoom is the weak spot: quality drops off noticeably past 3x, so treat the zoom as a framing tool rather than something to lean on for detail shots.
Flight performance in the field
The most interesting data point I found came from a wilderness field test in Alaska, flying the X1 side by side with a DJI Mini 4 Pro. The tester reported that subject tracking held up through rough terrain, in some moments better than the Mini 4 Pro managed. GPS lock was fast and reliable across multiple reviewers, and the flight tutorial built into the app was called out as unusually clear for new pilots.
Battery life in that same real-world test landed around 25 to 26 minutes, a bit under the 32-minute rating you’ll see quoted on the spec sheet. That’s typical for drones once you factor in wind, temperature, and active tracking, so plan flights around the lower number rather than the marketing figure.
Build quality and rough edges
Not every review was glowing. One tester flagged a visible gap in the housing and a section of exposed motherboard inside the battery compartment, plus occasional phantom obstacle warnings triggered by the rear sensor. The drone also isn’t rated for sand, dust, moisture, or salt air, so coastal or beach flying calls for extra care.
The in-app map also doesn’t display flight-restriction zones, meaning you’re responsible for checking airspace rules yourself rather than relying on the app to flag them. X1 versus the DJI Mini 4 Pro
An X1 Fly More Combo runs about $629 against $1,099 and up for the DJI equivalent, for a similar 1/1.3-inch-class sensor and matching 360-degree obstacle sensing. The X1 also lets you toggle Remote ID broadcasting off while staying under the 249-gram limit, something DJI’s Mini 4 Pro doesn’t offer. Should you buy it?
If you want near-flagship specs without the flagship price, and you’re comfortable checking airspace rules yourself and treating the housing gently, the X1 is a legitimately strong buy at $499. If low-light shooting or rock-solid build quality matters more to you than price, weigh that against what DJI charges for the same tier.
